   in northeastern

   on the shores of
Lake Poinsett.

   Poinsett is one of South Dakota's largest lakes,
   boasting over 8,000 acres of clean, fresh water
   and over 30 miles of sandy shoreline
   with lots of room to play.


brookings children's museumRight in the heart of outdoor recreation country, on the shores of Lake Poinsett, is LAKEVIEW Resort.  Adjacent to LAKEVIEW is a public beach and boat launch.  Across the way is the Lake Region Golf Course, a challenging 18-hole public golf course.  Nearby are privately owned and also the state campgrounds

But within a half-hour drive you will find many shopping and cultural opportunities.  From the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder to the Terry Redlin Art Center in Watertown, to the new Children's Museum in Brookings, you'll discover revived Main Streets, schools of higher learning, libraries, pools, parks.  Visit to see and learn more about what there is to do in the Glacial Lakes Region of northeastern South Dakota.  There truly is something to do here, for everyone.

In general, here's what you can expect from South Dakota's four seasons according to the South Dakota Department of Tourism:


Summer
(mid-June - mid-September)
Warm (sometimes hot) days and cool nights are the norm from mid-June through mid-September.
Fall (mid-September - November)
Comfortable warm weather through September and crisp cool weather into November make fall an excellent time to explore South Dakota.
Winter
(December - early March)
While temperatures can be cold, cold spells usually alternate with milder weather. Snowfall is prevalent-providing excellent conditions for winter sports.
Spring
(late March - mid-June)
Mostly sunny days, but this can be the rainy season. Spring snow showers are a possibility through early May. Temperatures can range from the 40s (4C) to the 80s (27C).
